Now that New Year's Day has passed, there are 10 more days throughout 2026 designated as federal holidays. Here's a rundown of each one and when it is: Martin Luther King Jr. Day: Monday, Jan. 19 Presidents' Day: Monday, Feb. 16 Independence Day: Friday, July 3 (since July 4 falls on a Saturday for the Semiquincentennial)
The Office of Personnel Management lists 11 federal holidays throughout the year, with two in January: New Year's Day (Jan. 1) and Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 19). March, April, and August are the only months without any federal holidays. On these days, federal offices, banks, and financial markets will all be closed.
Dec. 26 can become a day off for federal employees when the president issues a temporary order, like President Donald Trump did this year when he declared Christmas Eve and Dec. 26 federal holidays in 2025. Unfortunately, that still leaves the rest of us at the mercy of our workplace's goodwill.
